Music video production in Toronto
How much does a music video cost in Toronto?
It depends on the scope: how many shoot days and locations, the size of the crew, wardrobe and props, and how involved the edit and colour are. A one-location performance video costs far less than a multi-location concept with extras.
K6 quotes each project after hearing the song and the idea. Put your budget in your brief and K6 will tell you what it can deliver for it.
How long does it take to make a music video?
Most independent music videos go from first conversation to final cut over a few weeks: planning and pre-production, one or two shoot days, then the edit and colour. Simple one-location videos can move faster and bigger concepts take longer. Share your release date early so the schedule can work back from it.
What should I prepare before a music video shoot?
Have the final mix of the song, two or three reference videos for the look you want, outfits, a list of everyone appearing, location ideas and your release date. The clearer the brief, the more of the budget goes on screen.
Do I need a permit to film a music video in Toronto?
It depends on where you shoot. Filming on City of Toronto property, such as streets, sidewalks and parks, can require a permit from the City’s film office, and private locations need the owner’s permission. Plan locations early so permits and permissions don’t hold up the shoot.
What’s the difference between a music video director and a videographer?
A director owns the idea: the concept, the treatment, how the artist performs and how the story is told. A videographer operates the camera and captures the footage. On smaller productions one person often does both, which is common for independent hip-hop and rap videos.
What is a music video treatment?
A treatment is a short document that pitches the video before it is made: the concept, the look and colour, locations, wardrobe, key shots and reference images. It gets the artist, label and crew agreeing on the same video before anyone spends money on a shoot day.
Can K6 make vertical videos for TikTok, Reels and Shorts?
Yes. Alongside the main video, K6 cuts vertical edits, loops and teasers for Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts so the release has content for every platform.
Can K6 edit footage I already shot?
Editing and colour are part of K6’s work. K6 is credited as editor on YNM Sleez’s “TAKIN DAT RISK”. If you already have footage, describe it in the booking form and ask about an edit.
Does K6 shoot outside Toronto?
K6 is based in Toronto and works across the GTA. For shoots further out, put the location in your brief.
